I am pleased to announce that the very heavy sheets of 10mm perspex are now in place on the large gazebo at West Lodge Park, giving protection from south easterly, southerly and prevailing south westerly winds to guests both in the gazebo and nearby.

This, in addition to the seven electric heaters on the bar terrace and the five gas heaters, means that the whole area is now very comfortable in almost all conditions.

 12th April 2021

I am pleased to announce the bar terrace at West Lodge Park is finally open today thanks to the government’s partial loosening of the rules governing hospitality.

This is truly the best specified terrace in North London.

At great expense we have installed for your comfort 210m2 of new paving, 3 large gazebos, 7 electric heaters taking us to maximum capacity on our power, plus 5 gas heaters, in addition to 98 LED lights and over 100 comfortable cushions.

Here is the menu served on the terrace from midday to 10pm seven days a week.

You can book your table for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner here

 31st March 2021

The Estates team have completed the five month build of the new 210 m2 bar terrace at West Lodge Park, and handed it over to the Hotel team for the finishing touches.

There are 6 heaters in the three solid oak gazebos, and a total of 98 lights ! It all looks very smart indeed.

We would love to be serving our loyal guests full meals and drinks but the government has prevented us from doing so until Monday 12th April.

In the meantime we are happy to serve you takeaway coffees, teas and snacks, and hope you can be more patient than us!

Last night was the first time all the terrace lighting was on. It gives a superb and welcoming effect to this 210m2 new space.

There are 98 x 4w led warm white bulbs in total, as well as 6 electric 1.5kw heaters. A reminder that the lighting is timed to go off at 11pm so as not to disturb bedrooms above.

Thank you to Martin for installing this complex dusk to 11pm system, which will be of lasting benefit to our guests.

Two new oak gazebos each 3m x 3m are now up and awaiting their cedar shingle roofs!

Steve and Roy are working through the coldest weather in 20 years to build the gazebos!

23rd March 2021

Work progresses on the bar terrace and pavilion base, thanks to the decent weather that has finally arrived.

50 x 4w warm festoon lights

The 50 x 4w warm festoon lights on the large gazebo will be working tonight, and the 4 heaters are going in as you can see in this photo (the heaters are on a 10 minute guest operated push button so as not to heat up the whole atmosphere!)

lights on the large gazebo

Look on our webcam tonight after dark and you will see the lights on the large gazebo working as the light sensor and time clock have been fitted by Martin (dusk to 11pm)

shingled roof is

One side of the cedar wood shingled roof is now complete on the large gazebo so you can see the shape – this gazebo is very large, being over 8m long and 4m deep.

Both of these gazebos have a dusk to 11pm light sensor, and a heater with a 10 minute time clock.

Work has started on the roof of the third gazebo and you can see progress on this build here

We have made a decision to double the number of heaters in the big gazebo to four in number which makes the wiring more complicated.

Thanks to Martin, Roy and Steve for great progress on this job.

3rd March 2021

The bar terrace at West Lodge Park is popular year round, and thus any improvements are difficult to achieve without impeding guest access.

Bar terrace slabs now all laid 3/12/20

Bar Terrace Phase one now complete before Christmas!

1) The large new gazebo at the end of the terrace can now be seen, mounted as before on staddlestones. It is much larger than the other two, being 4M in depth, and will permit multiple tables to be under it when done. The ridge pole is arriving Monday, and then battening and shingling will start by Roy and Steve. (pics)

2) Lighting installation for the two smaller completed gazebos will start tomorrow, and I will circulate daytime, dusk and night photos as soon as these are complete

3) 4 extra tables and 16 extra chairs are on order, and will be delivered soon, these are mainly for picnics in the grounds but can be used on the terrace if this is preferable.

4) 100 red water resistant cushions are on order for the chairs – these are also heavier so shouldn’t blow off the chairs in windy conditions.

All in all this will be the most exceptional bar terrace in North London.

Although the lockdown is hugely negative for us for many reasons, it does at least allow us to achieve our long held ambition of significantly expanding the bar terrace for our guests, and to provide heated, lit and roofed areas for the first time.

You can get a feel for the look and the size of the terrace on these architects drawings here and here.

It will be some 210 m2 in size, with seating for up to 90 during normal times,

Lighting – power will be trenched to all four corners of the terrace with festoon lighting, warm white LED golf bulbs, and some more interesting lighting too.

Heating – via 1.5kw heaters in the roofed areas

Cushions – will be out once Covid is over

Furniture – we have ample Bridgeman garden furniture for three lines of tables and chairs, see the second of the two plans for possible layouts although these will be flexible

Paving – smart Indian stone Autumn brown + recycled York stone

Sizing – 21m x 10m – a very substantial terrace of 210m2

You can watch progress of the scheme via our webcam here

We look forward to being able to serve you drinks and food on our smart new terrace!
