I must thank you once again, from Philippa and myself, for providing our group with the use of the King Charles Room and for your valuable time on Sunday.
Our European friends were most appreciative and greatly enjoyed the guided walk, the young rare trees and the historical background to West Lodge Park Hotel. Your enthusiasm was most infectious and it is a shame we were restricted by flight times not to enjoy a more leisurely stroll and extend our visit!
Also, many thanks to the two Paul’s who accompanied us and who so willingly engaged with our group, providing more interesting information and anecdotes. Two of our group from Mendel University, Brno in Czech Republic took many notes on species they saw, encouraged at the growth they saw, as they too live in a very dry part of the world!
We would also like to thank Tina for helping with our order and organising the tea and to compliment the young members of your staff who were most attentive, polite and helpful throughout our dining experience. Please pass on our thanks, as they probably wondered what on earth these different nationalities were doing partaking in a cream tea! Our group were quite overwhelmed and as one German dendrophile commented “how marvellous and simply English” it all was!
We had a very successful tree tour and 7th European Champion Tree Forum at Kew Gardens. It was perfect ending it at West Lodge Park and the Beale Arboretum, where new champions of the future are being planted and nurtured so well!
I will send you the latest data on your champion trees as requested, later this week.
